Description
Just like us humans, our horses are also affected by so-called diseases of civilisation or prosperity. Due to poor posture, lack of exercise, excessive training requirements or unsuitable and high-energy feeding and, above all, stress, metabolic processes become imbalanced and the horse becomes ill. This book deals with the most common metabolic disorders in horses. It describes the causes, symptoms and treatment options of metabolic acidosis, equine metabolic syndrome (EMS), cryptopyrroluria (KPU), Equine Cushing syndrome (ECS), laminitis and others.
The authors show alternative treatment options taking into account the biochemical processes in the organism. As a supplement to conventional medical therapy, orthomolecular therapy and herbal or fungal medicine are used here. The effect and necessity of feeding micronutrients are explained and the required figures are given. A book with important information and valuable tips for everyone who wants to understand their horse better and promote its health.
The authors
THP Marion Schwaller-Barina
The certified animal healer has been involved in herbal medicine for years; including Mycotherapy and Orthomolecular therapy. She is particularly interested in the various metabolic disorders in horses and humans. As a person affected by KPU, she knows the consequences from her own experience. 20 years ago she founded the company Natusat with an urgent desire to help suffering horses and their owners. In numerous training courses and studies, she acquired the knowledge which is presented to the reader here in concentrated form.
Dr. med. vet. Eva Koeppl
The co-author is a veterinarian who has had her own practice for many years. A fellow horse owner/breeder, she understands the worries and needs of horse owners more than most. She finds the useful symbiosis of conventional medical knowledge and naturopathic knowledge particularly fascinating. In this book, metabolic disorders of the horse are examined from both sides to conclude with the best possible form of therapy. In her opinion, the holistic view of diseases is always necessary, because metabolic disorders, in particular, are usually multifactorial, i.e. can be assigned to several causes.
