Description

The hoof reflects the nutritional situation of the horse. Poorly growing, too soft, crumbly or brittle hoof horn should stimulate a long-term rethinking of feeding. In many cases, the classic supplementary feeding of hoof-specific nutrients such as biotin, zinc and sulfur-containing amino acids is not enough.
The main causes of nutrition-related hoof problems are:

  • Deficits in the nutritional building blocks that are built into the hoof wall directly or modified
  • Insufficient absorption of nutrients from the digestive tract into the blood

Bad processing in the metabolism, where nutrients are made suitable for incorporation into the growing hoof wall with the help of trace element and vitamin-dependent enzymes.
Unfavorable environmental conditions in the hoof, for example poor blood circulation in the hoof complex, hinder the transport of the nutritional components to the installation site.

Food building blocks for the development of the horny substance
The hoof horn consists primarily of the structural protein keratin, which in turn has a characteristic amino acid pattern. The quality of the feed protein, i.e. its amino acid composition, is usually less of a possible problem here. The keratin-forming amino acids include methionine, cysteine, lysine, proline and glycine, which are either obtained directly or from natural protein sources such as brewer's yeast, grain sprouts, chlorella algae and herbs can be fed. Mineral substances such as zinc, manganese, copper, iron, organic sulfur compounds, silicon and calcium are important structural components that strengthen the hoof horn. In order to improve the hoof substance, they should be contained in the supplementary feed in optimised proportions and - to ensure bioavailability - predominantly in natural forms.

Unsaturated vegetable fatty acids are important for the flexibility and elasticity of the hoof horn, among other things. Linseed oil, which is most valuable when cold-pressed, has a particularly favourable range of fatty acids.

Optimization of nutrient uptake and metabolism
Without good digestion and a well-functioning metabolism, it is far more difficult to supply the nutrients relevant to the hoof to their purpose in the body. Enzyme-rich grain germs support digestion in the small intestine. Garlic, brewer's yeast, flax seeds, millet, chamomile, vitamin A and the trace element cobalt help protect the digestive mucous membranes and maintain healthy intestinal flora.

The vitamins of the B-complex and vitamin C, the trace elements zinc, manganese, copper, iodine, and selenium as well as complex natural substances: brewer's yeast, chlorella, green grain sprouts and natural salt from the Himalayan foothills are used for the optimal conversion of the nutritional components in the metabolism.

To protect cells and organs against aggressive metabolic radicals, preferably ground grape seeds with highly potent radical scavengers (OPCs), vitamins E and C and selenium can be used. Nutrients rich in lecithin and glutathione, biotin and dried milk thistles provide special support for the liver.

Securing the transport of substances into the hoof complex
Only a well-perfused hoof dermis ensures the transport of substances into the hoof complex. Here, too, an optimal supply of nutrients can provide important services. Garlic, unsaturated fatty acids, grape seed flour and the mentioned radical protection factors contribute to the flow of the blood and to the protection of the fine blood vessels up to the dermis.

Ungulate: the holistic hoof care - even in stubborn cases!
By applying new findings in nutritional science, the new ungulate with its updated, even more diverse nutrient composition offers a sustainable nutritional concept to promote robust, resilient hooves - even in difficult cases.

Ungulate is a harmonious composition of biotin, keratin-forming amino acids, highly bioavailable micronutrients, special yeasts and many interesting carriers of vital substances.

Recommended by blacksmiths as the ultimate hoof nutrition!

Feeding recommendation:
Approx. 250g for large horses per day; Adjust the amount accordingly for smaller horses. Long-term supplementary feeding lasting several months is recommended.
In difficult cases, feed ungulate for 12 to 18 months, then halve the amount of ungulate fed to maintain the nutritional level.
